Yusuhara is a small mountainous town, the 91% of which is covered with forests. A part of the town belongs to a vast heights, Shikoku Karst Plateau, whose peak is 1,455 m (4,774 ft). This type of karst land is rare in Japan and filled with intact nature. On a clear day, the plateau provides an excellent viewpoint, with the Pacific to the south and the Seto Inland Sea to the north.
Kengo Kuma is an architect and professor at the University of Tokyo. His most recent works include Nezu Museum, Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, Nagaoka City Hall Aore, Kabuki-za, Besançon Art Center and Cité de la Musique and FRAC Marseille. He has various projects in progress inside and outside Japan, one of which is the design for the new National Stadium in Tokyo. Also, he has published a number of books, including Chiisana Kenchiku (2013), Kenchikuka, Hashiru (2013) and Boku No Basho (2014).
