Machi-no-Eki Yusuhara (Community Market and Hotel)

This is a combined facility of a community market and a hotel and welcomes a lot of visitors as a town attraction. The building concept is ‘a forest in Yusuhara’s downtown’, on the basis of which Kuma used thatch on the eastern outer wall with inspiration from local traditional roofs. This design brings a unique outlook and enhances ventilation and insulation showing the potential of natural resources on improving indoor conditions. The building concept is also reflected in a number of cedar pillars arranged on the first floor, where visitors can go around with a feeling of a forest walk. The guest rooms on the upper floors provide much coziness with elegant and considerate layouts.
